After a two-episode stint in Ugly Betty, McCord joined the cast of the MyNetworkTV soap American Heiress. She signed up for another telenovela on the network, Rules of Deception, but as the network moved away from the format the project did not push through. She then took a recurring role on Nip/Tuck, where she played the "attention-seeking" Eden.
In 2008, McCord appeared in the horror thriller The Haunting of Molly Hartley. That year she also got her big break when she joined the reboot of 90210. Her portrayal of privileged Naomi Clark attracted praise from critics, leading to a Young Hollywood Award in 2009.
