Kami? Si Gretchen Barretto. And why?... Just like Mike Tyson, she could've been such a role model, yet she's become a parody of herself. It's kind of sad.

Gretchen owns one of the most beautiful faces in Pinoy showbiz everlou. Maganda ang bruha talaga. That is not the reason kung bakit sasampalin namin sya. Sinayang nya eto eh. Nang nakasama ang Tony Boy, biglang lumaki ang ulo (at biglang lumiit ang thighs. Chos!) . Puno kasi ng hangin at pagka-hambog si Lola.

So what kung naka Monique Lhullier or naka Valentino ka? Or Marc Jacobs ang bag mo? Or Manolos ang shoes mo. Kailangan bang malaman ng lahat ng tao ito? Kahit di ka tinatanong, ever broadcast mo toh? Nagmukhang cheap ka tuloy instead na maging elegante sana. Sayang ang Greta. Isa lang ang ma-ipapayo ko, gayahin si Katie Holmes. Ang problema, ang buhok lang ni Katie ang ginaya ni Greta. Haaaay! Vavooo!

Bring Me To Donsol

So, Donsol is the official Philippine entry to the Best Foreign Film -Oscars next year. Directed by Adolfo Alix, Jr and starred Angel Aquino and Sid Lucero. Supporting Cast includes Cherie Gil and Jacklyn Jose.

Donsol is a love story. It is a story of heartbreak and the healing power of love (accdg. to some website I read). I havent seen Donsol yet, so no comment na muna with its chances to be nominated at the Oscars next year.

Kubrador with Gina Parreno lost its chance after Donsol was named by the FAP as Philly's entry to the Oscars. I havent seen both movies yet but, with the trailers (below). I thought of Kubrador as more powerful to be considered by the Oscars' choice committee. See for yourself.

I just finished watching The Lives Of Others, 2006 Oscars' Best Foreign Language Film from Germany. Love story din po sya but it has a lot to offer other than two individuals in love. It has its political aspect, its sentimentality, and the most important of all, the chill effect.

I reckon that the film's storyline is the first thing to consider when choosing which film to submit for this category. It must be sentimental (Cinema Paradiso, Life Is Beautiful, Amelie, The Sea Inside) or Political (Paradise Now, No Man's Land, Sophie Scholl, Joyeux Noel); or movies with children (Central Station, The Chorus, Kolya, Children of Heaven, Water) and it must give you chills (noticed in almost all movies nominated). Among Philippine films, Magnifico had all of these, but it was not sent.

The Philippines has never been nominated in this Oscar category. Do you think Donsol will be the first?

A Talk With Ekra

Finally, after more than a month of silence and estrangement from sister Ekra, nag-usap na rin kami muli. This was two days ago, over the phone. Here is the full conversation:

Lyka: Hello?
Ekra: Lyka! (of course, using my real name here).
Lyka: Uhuh?
Ekra: I am sending you an 104-year-old African-American female with lower GI Bleed. Chief Complaint of Bloody Stool, since this morning. This is new to her. No other GI history but Diverticulitis. No other medical problems except for patient is demented and requires a sitter.
Lyka: Hold On....., Kim! (talking to our Charge Nurse now), Do we have a sitter available for this patient from ER?
Kim: It's Chad and he is already here.
Lyka: (Back to Ekra) How bad is the patient?
Ekra: She's trying to get out of bed to pee even though we have a Foley on here already.
Lyka: Is the bleeding active?
Ekra: Very much. She's having Dark Red. I put her on a diaper. H and H is not that low though. No blood given. You have to check for another one at 8. Other Lab works within normal.
Lyka: Any special orders?
Ekra: Hmmm... you'll start fluids @ 100cc/hr x1 liter. I think that's it. Any more questions?
Lyka: None at all. Thank you.
Ekra: OK, then.... Bye!
Lyka: Bye!

Seriously now, when all this started (no, not the bleeding lady but the Ekra-Lyka Alienation), I felt really sad and dispirited because of the rift. I had difficulty sleeping at gigising ako na mabigat ang dibdib. Habang tumagal, I learned to forget it. I thought I was OK na until this phone conversation with her. I am having problems sleeping again and for the past two mornings, I woke up with this sisterhood's disaffection in my mind. Dyahe!

Character: Teresita

Si Teresita, co-worker ng Mama O, nag-party sa bagong bahay nya kahapon. Bitbit naman ako ni Mama O kaya join na rin ketch. Of course, another Pinoy party na naman to. Lafang here and there na naman. (In fairyness, masarap ang Cassava Cake).

Teresita is from Dumalag, Capiz. Medyo may katandaan na at matagal na rin dito sa Tate. Doon sa bagong garden nila ganap ang kainan. Maganda naman talaga ang garden ng Teresita. At sya lang talaga ang nag landscape nito and did the planting herself.

Si Mhel, isa sa mga bisita, ang kasama namin ni Mama O habang palakad lakad sa garden enjoying the plants and the flowers. Si Mhel ay may napansin na interesting na halaman. Ito ay parang grass. Green, na parang Bermuda. Nice tingnan at smooth hipuin. "Oo nga ano?" sabi ni Mama O. "Ang cute!"

"Teresita!" tawag ni Mhel. Lapit naman si Teresita. "Anong tawag dito?" tanong ng Mhel habang tinuturo ang halaman. "Ah yan? Japanese Mousse yan!". "Oh.... Japanese Mouse" duet namin ni Mama O. "Saan naman mabili yang Japanese Mousse na yan? Makabili nga rin yan" sabi ng Mhel.

Pagkalipas ng 10 questions and answers about the Japanese Mousse, nagyaya si Teresita na tingnan ang Apple Tree nya. Si Mhel na ang sumama. Napaiwan kami ng Mama O.

"Japanese Mousse? Pwede to sa garden natin 'Day" sabi ni Mama O sa akin habang hinihimas ang Japanese Mousse. "Teka bakit Japanese Mousse ang tawag?" asked ko. "Hindi naman sya parang gel at fluffy"... "Baka smooth lang sya kaya naging Mousse ang tawag" sagot ni Mama O. "Smooth talaga yan, dahil lumot yan!" sagot ko.... "Lumot!" At bigla na lang kami napa-stare sa isa't isa at tumawa ng tawa.

Japanese Moss! Gosh! Yun pala yun! Kaya LOL kami ng Mama O. Napalapit si Teresita. "Oh bakit kayo tawa ng tawa?" asked nya. In unison, sagot namin ni Mama O, "Wala!"

Gosh! We so love this TV Ad. Always beautiful naman talaga ang mga TV chu-chu ng Bench na toh kahit di na kami gumagamit nitets! Ang Taraaay! Especially ang Brokeback Mountain moment nina John Mullally, Rafael Rosell and Bruce Quebral. Feel na feel talaga.



So dramatic ang concept, davush?... Pati ang manonood feel ang beautiful moments. Kahit mukhang mataba si Kris Aquino, pwede na... nadala ng mga fireflies in their supporting roles. Kahit medyo nakita ang di-masyadong-perfect na nose ni Piolo, keri pa rin dahil sa katawan nito; Kahit mukhang awkward ang mga arms ni Kim Chiu, pumatok dahil sa cute na smile ni Gerald Anderson at ang drama ng mga kalapating mababa ang lipad. Kaya lang nakaka-sad dahil kinalbo ni Lucy Torres ang mga kalapating ito; At ang ke Goma.... ang cute... ang cute ng mga dolphins!

What A Lovely Morning!" to every person we'll meet at work.

Kiks' Hombres Teribles

Statistics says 1 out of 10 men is gay. What would you do if you are that 1? Kiks experience in Venezuela is not that odd to most of us badings out there. Surrounded by men talking about 'macho' stuff (like girls, especially girls!) would be too awkward for us.

It would have been easier if Kiks was an obvious "sister" but for the Pamhintas like him, it is beyond his depth. Too uncomfortable and embarrassing if they really want you to get involve with the conversation. The solution: Tell them you are a Born-Again Christian. It worked with Piolo and Sam. Chos!
