Booking

Three days ago, I joined a conference chat with K, G, and fB. We talked about books (with boy booking chisms sa sides. Chos!) Today, K and fB posted about books on their blogs. (K chose The Great Gatsby as no. 1 sa list nya while fB's... gosh! The Holy Bible!).

Affixed were the first lines of their chosen favorite books. I should do this one too dahil wala akong booking today. Kabangas! In no particular order....

Cry To Heaven
Anne Rice

Guido Maffeo was castrated when he was six years old and sent to study with the finest singing masters in Naples. He had known only hunger and cruelty among the large peasant brood to which he was born the eleventh child.

The Alchemist
Paulo Coelho

The boy's name was Santiago. Dusk was falling as the boy arrived with his herd at an abandoned church.

The Road
Cormac McCarthy

When he woke in the woods in the dark and the cold of the night he'd reach out to touch the child sleeping beside him. Nights dark beyond darkness and the days more gray each one than what had gone before.

Who Moved My Cheese?
Dr. Spencer Johnson

One sunny Sunday in Chicago, several former classmates, who were good friends in school, gathered for lunch, having attended their high school reunion the night before. They wanted to hear more about what was happening in each other's lives.

The Five People You Meet In Heaven
Mitch Albom

This is a story about a man named Eddie and it begins at the end, with Eddie dying in the sun. It might been strange to start with an ending. But all endings are also beginnings.

Specimen Days
Michael Cunningham

Walt said that the dead turned into grass, but there was no grass where they'd buried Simon. He was with the other Irish on the far side of the river, where it was only dirt and gravel, and names on stones.

The Tesseract
Alex Garland

There was no bright color in the room. Outside, there was plenty.

The Claiming Of Sleeping Beauty
A.N. Roquelaure

The Prince had all his young life known the story of Sleeping Beauty cursed to sleep for a hundred years, with her parents, the King and Queen, and all of the Court, after pricking her finger on a spindle. But he didnt believe it until he was inside the castle.

At ang choices ng mga Step-sisters kow.......

The Richest Man In Babylon
George S. Clason
(Mama O's Choice)

Bansir, the chariot builder of Babylon, was thoroughly discouraged. From his seat upon the low wall surrounding his property, he gazed sadly at his simple home and an open workshop in which stood a partially completed chariot.

Sabriel
Garth Nix
(Jezebel's Choice)

The rabbit had been run over minutes before. Its pink eyes were glazed and blood stained its clean white fur.

Siddhartha
Hermann Hesse
(Ekra Tan's Choice)

In the shade of the house, in the sunshine on the river bank by the boats, in the shade of the sallow wood and the fig tree, Siddhartha, the handsome Brahmin's son, grew up with his friend, Govinda.

(But wait! Si sister Kelly from the Philippines, ayaw din mag-paawat. Her favorite book raw should be included din sa list. Eto sya:)

The Prince's Angel:
And The Two Shall Become One
Mychael Black
(Kelly's Choice)

"I summon thee, Zalael, to this place and offer thee this body as your vessel."

Very Inspiring yung kay Kelly ha! Pero chariiit lang po yun! Dahil wala raw syang favorite book. Leche sya! Tse nya!

Well girls naniniwala kami na: Kapag may Aklat......... Sosyal!

Ded na si Oscar!

There you gow! Our beloved Philippines' chosen entry for Best Foreign Language Film- Oscars 2010.....

Soxie Topacio's Ded na si Lolo: Anow itow? Kaloka itow! Ayoko na talaga. First, si Carlo Caparas as National Artist... ngayon naman, itow? Ano ang nangyayari sa dako paroon?

I havent seen the movie yet pero calibre ba itow ng Spain's All About My Mother? South Africa's Tsotsi? Brazil's Central Station?  Bosnia's No Man's Land? Mexico's Amores Perros? and Hong Kong's Farewell My Concubine? Gosh! Watch nyo:

Sorry for judging the book by its cover. (Di ba Melanie? He's not a book!) Pero, hindi talaga eh.... hinding hindi! Ayoko na! But am still going to watch the movie though kasi gagang gaga ako kay Roderick Paulette. Malandi sya! Bruha sya!

This is a very Pinoy film where only Pinoys can appreciate. But did they even consider the international viewers at all? I dont think the Academy will crave for culture... they go for the Script and the story line. Not even the film's artistic exhibition: remember Japan's Departures beating Israel's Waltz With Bashir last year? and Germany's Lives of Others beating Mexico's Pan's Labyrinth 3 years ago?

Sa mga taong pumili sa pelikulang ito for the Oscars (Eddie Romero, Robert Arevalo, Jose Carreon, Johnny Delgado, William Mayo, Manny Forte, Jess Navarro, and Elwood Perez), sana tama kayo. Butt...... Tse sa inyo! Double Tse! (Tse-Tse Lazaro!)

Is there any remedy? Bangaw perhaps?

Ben gives me flirty Hi's but he's taken
I cannot compete with the same guy for 10 yrs.

The utong is still there.

Carl doesn't know who Pedro Almodovar is
And enjoys watching Wowowee always.

Nasty Pimples imitating the Bermuda Triangle
When would this stop? Sue Lab Series?

David says he finished college at "Yufee"
Hindi sya graduate ng La Salle!

I smoke a pack per day
'Cause I worry too much.

-----O----

With my foul imperfections,
Am still looking for the perfect guy.

I cannot drink from a glass with smudge on it
I need to figure out love. Now na!

Dubai Diaries: Page 4

Kaya win sya!

Si Mona.... kakainis. Nagyayang mag-beach. Me date raw sila ng bago nyang Jowang Pakistani. Asus! Try nya naman raw tong lahing to for a change.

Blind Date raw. Wala namang magawa ang Lyka, kaya ayun. Go na rin.

In fairy ness, nasa Jumeirah Beach na nga kami. At yes! And of course, pati na rin yung kaibigan nya.

Gabi yun. Madilim na. Kaya ayun. Introduction of Candidates na ang Mona kaagad. Me itsura naman. Kamukha nga ni Richard Gomez eh. Walang halong biro. Kahit madilim.

So there! Puerto Galera moments ang mga bading with their papi Paki partners.

Puro Regine and Jaya lang kami. Pakanta kanta lang with those magic mics from Islamabad. Walang palakpakan. Kidlat tahimik. The sounds of waves and Enya-nish humming lang ang maririnig.

"Stop the holding hands bakla, baka mga civilian pulis tong parating".

At ang kasama nyang Paki too. Siyet! Tatakbo ba ako bitbit ang date koh or balikan ko ang Mona and friend to save them ala Darna? Eh dahil mabait ako, binalikan namin sila ni Ding. Ayun pati kami nadamay tuloy. Question and Answer portion na ito! Ito ang pinaka mahirap. Di umobra ang pagka-Darna ko. Wala kasing bato!

So ayun na! So go sa prisinto! Wala ng: "Can I call my lawyer?" Wala na yan sa Dubai! OA yan dun!

Sabi ko, friends lang kaming apat, like Joey to Chandler. Ayaw maniwala.

"Mona! Anong ginagawa mo?" Sagot: "Baka makatulong at di tayo makulong!" What? Ano raw?

How sweet di ba?

The Man and The Boy

He is coming home.
Unpleasant memories packed
Heavy 0n his back...
A luggage full of remorse.

The plane has landed
On the soil where he grew up
He woke up weary
Greeted by Yesterday

His mom welcomes him
not as a son but as a stranger
A visitor from a land far away.
A traveller from the future.

She looks younger and healthy
But her smile will always be the same
She showed him his room
His small corners from the past

His Dad didn't say hello
Always cold and remote
Then, there were children
But only one made his heart leap.

A boy, cheerful and confident
Raw and wide-eyed.
The boy smiled at him.
He was his Mom's youngest child.

He spent the day with the folks
In the village street outside
Alone, he saw Them
The devil and his demons.

They were talking to the boy.
To stop them is his purpose
But he was paralyzed from feet up
There is no way to escape fate.

He saw how they dragged the boy
In some darkness somewhere
He still cannot move. Helpless.
Tears displayed what he felt inside

The boy came back crying
His family oblivious
He wont say a word.
This is between him and the boy now.

It was their secret.
But the boy thought it was personal
The next day, everything has changed.
Innocence lost and stolen.

The boy becomes shy and afraid
He is no longer cheerful
His family unsuspecting
It could just be a stage

He saw the boy alone
Playing with his dolls.
He approached him
They have a talk.

"I know what is going on.
And i love you no matter what"
The very first words he wanted
to tell the boy for a very long time.

"What happened has happened
we cannot change it anymore
It is a part of life, you'll understand
All you need is to walk on.

You will never be happy
unless you release it
Don't start to carry the burden
It was not your fault.

Continue to dream and forget about it
Then everything will be better".
The boy hugged him with tears on his eyes
He patted his back as he pat his.

It was different the next day
He woke up smiling and happy
His mom greets him good morning
Not as as stranger this time but as her son
The same assuring smile on her face. Always.

This is the day he'll return to America
The place he calls home for 6 years now.
His dad beaming at him
No longer cold, No longer remote.
Pride written on his face.

Then, there were children
His nephews and nieces.
They reminded him of the boy from Yesterday
Cheerful, confident, and raw
like the boy the first time they met.

He kissed everybody goodbye
His Mom, Dad, and the children
To the poor boy he never saw again.
To remorse, guilt, and self-pity
To the Devil and his demons.

As the plane lands at SFO
He felt light and buoyant.
The luggage of remorse,
No longer on his back.
He definitely feels better.

At the passenger seat of a cab,
He thought of the man.
The man who changed his life.
The man he met 30 years ago,
Himself.

Sartorialism

Yes we have na the book.

The Sartorialist is blogger-photographer Scott Schuman's collection of photos documenting fashion from the streets of the most hip cities out there. Sabi nga ni Mario Testino: "(This is) the place to be seen".

You can be a fashion statement yourslef. Get noticed. Be seen! Who knows, Mr Schuman is just around the corner. You dont have to be Heidi Klum, Johhny Depp or me! Choooos!

Go lang ng go!

Male ka man or Female

Androgynous or the Unknown

Young ka man or Old

Black (wearing white) or White (wearing black)

Si Kanye ka man or si Iman (chos!)

Go lang ng go mga bakla! But remember, dont try too hard. Just be yourself. Express the Lady Gaga in you! Your personal style might be in page 475 of the next book. Malay mooooh! Katulad ng Lola nyong ito. Napasama sa Sartorialista!

Win ang turban and the belt! Davu?

Those were only 11 photos among the 500+ featured in the book. Go get one na mga bading! Tse!

But wait! Again, get caught with your own flair. Just like Jezebel Patel here na kararating lang from work @ 9 PM. Pictured not by Mr. Schuman but by yours trulala!

Kaye, Kaye, Kaye...  we bought this for you. But let us enjoy it first for a while. OK? The postman from Penang has not arrived yet pa naman, di ba? DHL from SF to Bangkok costs something din. Sana may LBC kayo dyan. Ching!
